What we have done so far

Our First Year - 2017

  • First public meeting held at Methodist Hall Tuesday 25th October 2016. Around 90 people attended our first meeting which was to assess how much support there is for a Development Trust for the Bovey area; to discuss what the DT might do and find out who would like to get involved.
  • Bovey Futures Community Groups networking event Saturday 4th March 2017.  70 people from local voluntary and sports groups came to a community groups consultation event organised. The overwhelming issue raised then was the urgent need for a large multi-purpose community and sports facility in the parish, and Bovey Futures was tasked with setting up a working group with local people, sports and community groups to take the idea forward.
  • Bovey Futures at Green Man Festival Saturday 29th April 2017:  An information stand that attracted a lot of enquiries and interest from festive passers by.
  • Bovey Futures community land consultation Sat. May 6th. 2017: First of two meetings to ensure that we had the full support of the community; and to recruit a project team to carry forward ideas for a community hall and sports centre on the community land at Le Molay Littry Way.

  • Bovey Futures community land development consultation at Cricket Club Wednesday 21st June 2017:  The second of our consultation meetings about a community hall and sports centre.
  • Bovey Futures stand at Bovey Horticultural Show Saturday 19th August 2017: Launch of a survey to gather evidence from the wider community about potential uses of a new community hall and sports centre.
  • Bovey Futures stand at Nourish Festival Saturday 2nd September 2017: More public consultation to gather people's views about potential uses of a new community hall and sports centre.
  • October 2017: Bicycle racks donated by Bovey Futures and installed outside Riverside Surgery.
  • Bovey Futures 1st Birthday Drop-In event at Baptist Hall. Saturday 25th November 2017

Progress into 2018

It was another busy year continuing to provide support and assistance to the residents of Bovey Parish, helping them develop their ideas for the benefit of everyone in the community.  As well as continuing our projects from 2017, we have taken on additional projects including:

  •  Providing a home for the Bovey 'flag project' which bestows such a welcome for visitors and residents alike over the summer months
  • Identifying a location for a new Bovey Gym which can be enjoyed by all residents
  • Supporting 'Plastic Free Bovey' in its aims to reduce single use plastics in the community.
